To boldly go

This little unit fit in very easily. Some people may have misread the title...it is a "High speed USB 2.0"...the Flash memory reader drives are just normal speed for that type of drive. It didn't come with any instructions... but; didn't need them either.
You will need your own Floppy cable for it...just plug it in and plug in the USB plug into an open spot on your Motherboard and boot up your computer, and you're in business.
The price was good and the features were great. |

| This item has enhanced my ability to add connectivity to my computer. Now I can read and write to any format. |
It works, but quality is disappointing :(

EDIT: I'm revising my review. After using it for a while now I have come to the conclusion that this thing is crap.
Wish I could change my rating to 1 star (more than it deserves). Don't waste your money on this. You will regret it. It ate one of my CF cards, and later shorted out and crashed my system. Fortunately it didn't fry anything in the computer when it died.
Original review:
Well, it works. It reads all the memory cards and floppy disks I have tried. But the fit and finish of the product leaves a lot to be desired. I got this to replace a Mitsumi FA404 I have been using for years because the Mitsumi can't read XD or SD-HC.
The drive I received is a Sabrient brand. While it does read XD cards, they have to be jammed in forcefully at an odd angle. If you try to slide them in straight they won't go. Something in the slot blocks them. Other cards fit a little better, but not as well as my old Mits.
Not the quality I was hoping for, but since it works I guess I'll keep it. |
Tight fit!!

| Does what it claims but had to force it into the floppy bay, then the floppy did not function due to the tight fit but finally got it working after messing with it enough. |
GNU/Linux custom server with grub boot loader and SDHC 32gb

| Reviewer: Lester P. Vecsey, New York, NY USA |
| I like to build my servers with a USB flash as the boot medium for extra reliability, and for my next one I'm going to attempt this one with a SanDisk Ultra II SDHC 32GB Card. It's usually fairly tricky when using a USB flash on its own because if you remove it and power on the system, you usually have to go back into the bios settings to double check the boot order. Also a USB flash is more prone to being jiggled out of place if you move or bump the system. So the SD or SDHC should be a little better in this regards if it all works. I will update my review with the results after spending some time with this. |
